I am a US citizen living in the US and have an employer-based insurance. It costs about $500 a month. I go for a yearly checkup. The doctor didn’t do any tests or labs like they would so in annual checkups in China where I grew up, and he just talked and asked questions for 20 mins. Based on our conversation, he sent me to the lab for tests after my visit. The lady at the lab told me it would cost me $500. I walked out without doing the test. I decided to move to France. I look at the weekly school shooting and the health care system. This is not where I want to raise my family.

I can’t imagine that so many people in US has to make the choice between getting proper treatment and paying bills, food and gas for car….

Health care should never be about profit, that’s where the US is going wrong

  6. pletts2685 on January 25, 2022 at 10:34 pm

Interesting. All the commenters are people who have benefited greatly by the US for profit healthcare system. Even 3 from Harvard. How curious that they hate the question and do not want to answer it. Wow. The experts can’t answer the question. But then they do. I would say shameful (who feels that anymore) but I don’t know what I would do if I was doing so well based upon the status quo as the experts here are.

I’m disappointed that no one discussed about Taiwan. Its universal care insurance covers 99.9% of citizens and has the best price–performance ratio.

  11. Peter Siekmann on January 25, 2022 at 10:37 pm

So, how is it that US medical costs are (at least) twice those of other countries, and a large proportion of the less affluent cannot afford any treatment? Pure selfishness on the part of health insurers and drug companies, and the mistaken belief the it’s everyone for himself/herself. Basic healthcare should be provided to all by the government – it’s right and fair to do so.

Shows the world ranking on Healthcare. France is number one. Italy is number two.
"you generally start from France and go up north…"
    Hold up.
Are we ranking by data or by stereotypes?

  16. Gee Ache on January 25, 2022 at 10:45 pm

The last phrase says all about the attitude towards healthcare: …this is the country where you want to get your healthcare.
Non native English speaker but I would say ‘receive’ over ‘get’.
That combined with the "your’ in ‘ your healthcare’ shows the brain-embedded or even desired customer relationship towards healthcare.

    If that doesn’t change, well…

Was this a deliberate end by makers of the video?

This is a typical video of scientists looking at their own American and other health systems from their own societal frames of reference and then coming to the conclusion that there is no answer to it or that this answer depends on your own expectations. It also shows how, in this case the intellectual elite, look at society from their ivory tower. There are so many sides to the matter that looking is a pointless excursion. Just like this video is a waste of time watching and commenting on it. ;(

  25. scoterf on January 25, 2022 at 10:56 pm

So even ‘experts’ cant even bring themselves to say anything against a system that bankrupts and kills patients(medication being to expensive).

Healthcare for profit is disgusting. Wealthy Americans, who let’s be honest, control the country are too greedy to share healthcare with the poorer members of society. National healthcare is NOT communist as the wealthy try to argue.

  28. soniaustralie on January 25, 2022 at 10:59 pm

I just watched a lot of Phd people finding excuses to not create their own model as good as the French one or Swiss one … the truth is that most of US taxpayers money goes to the war machine trillions and trillions of dollars each year over 6 decades… sometimes financing the army and war machine of other countries…. in a inhuman/colonial/imperialist way.

  29. Xam Mendoza on January 25, 2022 at 10:59 pm

The best health care in the world is when a patient goes home and not worry bout anything including financial problems that may arise when the bill comes up. Because when you see your bill amounting to 5 to 6, even 7 digits, stress and depression arises. And possibly losing a whole chunk of hard-earned lifetime earnings, if not selling properties just to pay for that health debt.

  30. DontUputThatEvilOnMe on January 25, 2022 at 11:01 pm

Can’t the argument be made that the majority of medical breakthroughs are made in the US. Which other developed countries that have socialized systems have benefited from this for years. So USA is basically the main RND engine for the worlds cutting edge medical technologies. You have to be honest without the US system, medical tech would be farther behind than it is now. Seems that a lot of the developed world is against privatized healthcare now days but you have to admit it does have some benefits.

  31. Zani Zone on January 25, 2022 at 11:01 pm

"For a lot of people, regardless of income, this is probably the country you would want to get your healthcare."
Of course, and regardless of my income, the Penthouse Suite at The Mark, is where I would like to spend my vacation in New York city. Will I get it, at 75k per night? Not a chance.
But I would sure want it.
    "Regardless of income" 🤦🤦🏼‍♂️🤦‍♀️

  32. Kantb Tamed on January 25, 2022 at 11:02 pm

“Regardless of your income this is probably the place you’d like to get your income” – that doctor.
Excuse me sir, but I’d rather die than be trapped in insurmountable medical debt for 70 years.

  33. KRC Gaming on January 25, 2022 at 11:03 pm

There is no country who has the best healthcare system, but there is a country who has THE WORST healthcare system: USA!

  34. Brendan Hall on January 25, 2022 at 11:03 pm

Northern Europeans figured it out. These people probably get paid big money to talk in a circle.

  35. Skeletor The Alcoholic on January 25, 2022 at 11:04 pm

Well America used to have one of the best healthcare systems until the Government got involved. This made prices sky rocket because of the fact Private Healthcare businesses had to compete with the Government.

  36. Jordirex on January 25, 2022 at 11:05 pm

The Harvard guy has no idea, north from France? Spain italy and andorra have super good health care systems that are up on these rankings. Spain is the country with more organ donors and transplants. "Experts".

  37. AriesT on January 25, 2022 at 11:05 pm

Also the US people in the comments refusing to accept reality amuse me.

  38. G O on January 25, 2022 at 11:06 pm

I’m wondering, if the data with the comparison of "cost to additional life expectency" is taking into account the inflation…cause the raw number of money you have to pay will obviously go up over time due to inflation.

  39. Brendan Hall on January 25, 2022 at 11:08 pm

For what countries does the US provide health care? Israel…

  40. Amnesic Stranger on January 25, 2022 at 11:11 pm

You know what, I have the chance to live in France, I don’t think many people acknowledge this but this is truly a chance. I am beneficing from a healthcare system where I (as a student), for the most part, don’t have to pay anything whatsoever, at all, and I am not afraid to say that this is a privilege. As a kid, I always had this dream vision of the US, like "wow, you can achieve everything over there", there was this ting around the American dream, like "be whoever you want to be, thrive for it", and then I grew up and figured out that this really wasn’t it. The supposed "best country on earth" is actually really (I mean REALLY) flawed, and so I am grateful to be where I am now. I don’t agree with the last comment by the way, that’s just a way to feel better about the system you are in really.

  41. Luch Sveta on January 25, 2022 at 11:11 pm

Funny to watch how these MDs are sabotaging the change , closing the video with this BIG LIE – how much everybody wants to be treated in USA. I WISH TO ALL OF THESE DOCTORS TO GO THOUGH HEALTHCARE as patients IN THE USA and pay this own own price of their own lives in this this barbaric system .

  42. Farkas Ambrus on January 25, 2022 at 11:16 pm

    Best healthcare system: Switzerland
Reality: Health insurance in Switzerland starts from 400$+ which doesn’t even cover the full cost of the given treatments

  43. svein gerald hansen on January 25, 2022 at 11:16 pm

And only 62% go to the doctor. Due to an overly expensive cost level,
    you could be declared bankrupt.
The government pays the costs that amount to
twice as many as other countries. And when we take into account
62% coverage, that is to say it was a catastrophe.

  44. Apollo22 on January 25, 2022 at 11:21 pm

The elites in this world, the ones who lie to humanity constantly for self political gains, power and control are the ones who have the best health care.

They steal our money, tax is legalised theft btw . They then develop new technologies using our money ! and then lie to the public that anything exists, just keep taking a pill because we can make money from it !!!!

Keep the public ill makes them trillions !!

Wilhelm Reich???? The FDA know all about this man, they ensured he was silenced so they still had a business !!

We have a long life expectancy above France, Great Britain or Germany, and our system is also considered one of the best in the world.
