Is Veganism Healthy or Harmful?

This video defines veganism and explores the benefits and pitfalls of following a vegan diet. This video explores the effectiveness of vegan diet and the related health results. We also interview a vegan, Aïda Retta, of the Vegans of UBC club in order to get their first-hand experience of following the vegan diet and to dispel any myths associated with veganism.

This video was created by McMaster University Demystifying Medicine students Najih Shabir, Viraj Sharma, Gabrielle Retta, and Abanoob Tawadrous.

    "It is the position of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics that appropriately planned vegetarian, including vegan, diets are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits for the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. These diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, adolescence, older adulthood, and for athletes. Plant-based diets are more environmentally sustainable than diets rich in animal products because they use fewer natural resources and are associated with much less environmental damage. Vegetarians and vegans are at reduced risk of certain health conditions, including ischemic heart disease, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, certain types of cancer, and obesity."

    Went vegan for 2 months. I felt week and tired all the time. I had 2 slices of cheese in my subway veggie sandwich. Swear to god it saved my life!

    I am vegitarian from my birth and I am healthy, In india 30%( 20 years before percentage was 70 ) peoples are vegitarian and we do not have any problem.
    And one thing I want to clear, we do not think about nutrition type stuff, we just eat all types of plants, we have delicious vegiterian food.

    Out of 100,000 views, just 1600 likes, that’s just how hated vegans are, you know what, being vegan shouldn’t be a thing, vegan should be the norm as it’s accessable, moral and healthy. Meat eaters should be considered not normal cause they’re not moral, people do dumb documentaries about how Ted Bundy was smart and he could outsmart the police.. Well, I know for a fact these slaughterhouse (animal agriculture) workers are smarter than him and do all sorts of abuse on the pigs, we need to realise a pig, hen or even a cow, fish, goat, sheep, turkey are not dolls, they have a nervous system and feel pain (plants don’t have a nervous system and don’t feel pain just in case you’re stupid….)

    Correction —–B12 is produced by soil bacteria, and is picked up by animals as they eat plants. Animals are not the source of B12. Our modern fruits and vegetables are too clean without the soil that would contain B12

    This is Veganism brain washing to say that it prevents cancer. The actual truth that is all people die of cancer when you get to a certain old age. No person has ever died of old age it is generally the cause of a disease that the body has failed to conquer. If you want proof look at the autopsy of any "old person" and you will find some form of cancer/illness. It goes back to the point at 0:22 being that if your proportions of the daily five are correct then you will have a healthy life.

    The point that 0:22 does is that it exposes people’s lies in the sense that people do not actually live very healthy lives. You can only get obese if you eat only meat and you can only get sickly thin if you eat only vegetables and no meat.

    Veganism only works if you live in a first world country otherwise Veganism does not work. If you want more proof look at North Korea there is no way that they can sustain a vegan lifestyle.

    There are many people who have eaten meat and survived more than a 102 years. Veganism is just a fashion nowadays. I mean i get it some go vegan for health reasons. I ain’t vegan but i consume less amount of chicken in my diet.

    I went vegan, because I almost had cancer in my uterus, because of the hormonal unbalance that eating animals provoque me. I went vegan and my hormones were back in their normal track in a month. I didn’t need any surgery to remove the cancerous cysts. When I was an omnivore I couldn’t menstruate for 7 months, and after 1 month of being vegan I could finally bleed, and my body healed… Veganism save me from cancer. And I couldn’t be more grateful. I’m thriving. I have been vegan for 8 years now, my hair is knee length thanks to all the vitamins a plant based diet offers. I used to have severe acne, and my face completely healed by going vegan 🥺❤️

    Why are some vegans unhealthy and physically weak?
    It is because of blocked meridians and weak Qi Flow. We must focus on the exercise that can generate more Qi, not just exercise that only increase muscle strength.
    I do these three exercises everyday, and I feel healthier and stronger:
    1) Standing Meditation (Zhan Zhuang 站樁) At least 20 to 30 minutes a day
    2) Swing Hand Exercise (Ping Shaui Gong 平甩功) At least 20 to 30 minutes a day.
    3) Tibetan Prostration (Da Li Bai 大禮拜) Recommended for best results 108 times daily. You can start off with 14 or 21 times and add up more later on.

    You may search on Youtube for these exercises.

    1) Standing Meditation (Zhan Zhuang 站樁) is great for calming the body and mind, allowing the Qi to flow better.

    2) Swing Hand Exercise (Ping Shaui Gong 平甩功) helps strengthen the organs, and helps blood and Qi flow better.

    3) Tibetan Prostration (Da Li Bai 大禮拜)is used for repenting for Buddhists, but it is also great for whole body exercise for building up muscles, stretching, and opening up meridians. (it also helps cleansing bad karma and brings good luck.) Some people say this exercise is great for scoliosis.

    When the organs are in good shape, and the meridians are open, we are healthy.

    Remember massage the muscles are doing any exercise, so the Qi can flow better.

    Veganism isnt about health. Plant based diet is very healthy if well done yes. Same as eating fried animal corpse dunked in oil dunked in salt sugar can be healthy.. wait..

    this woman and this video is wrong. yes vegans do some things that make them feel good. that is not because the vegan diet is what the body needs its because the vegan diet does some excellent detox. the body needs real food, plants do not provide that, if eaten to much the defenses of the plants will cause stones in the liver ,gal bladder and kidneys. the body can survive for many years on the vegan diet but slowly you will starve and emaciate . the plants are excellent for detox and medicine. learn their attributes ,use them for those excellent qualities, find high quality animal foods . the animals are eqipt to deal with lectins, oxalic acid and many other plant defense, the cow has 4 stomachs, it can convert grass into high quality fats and proteins, the brin especially needs these. do the research , don’t buy into the save the animal bu77shiiiit it is a huge lie. but stay away from the processed crap. eat what people have eaten for eons. ANIMALS . small amounts of seasonal plants for detox and smaller amounts of seasonal fruits. that is what humans have done for eons. that is what works.

    I believe meat wasn’t a part of the diet in the beginning. I remember in Genises that God made plenty of herbs and fruit for food but maybe meat was also eaten, I’m not sure about that. Veganism is honestly the best diets in the world and I’m finally underweight and healthy. I choose to serve Jesus Christ even with my body, therefore I won’t eat processed food and meat.

    No matter your food plan, it is wise to ensure the right amount of calories on average, daily, and the right amount of minerals and vitamins. This can be done by weighing food and entering it in a calorie tracker like cronometer or myfitnesspal.

    Some vegans don’t get enough calories when they start. Some don’t eat enough of the more calorie dense foods like beans, potatoes, whole wheat bread, pasta, peas. Therefore, all vegans, especially when starting or changing their food a lot, can prevent big health issues by tracking calories to make sure one is getting enough calories. Also, some vegans can get weakness and malaise. Nutrients for good energy level are iron, iodine, and zinc, iodine and B12. Some people have low blood iron even if they eat enough in food, because there are other health issues.

    Vegans should be especially careful to take a B12 supplement. 500 mg weekly is more than enough. 1 pill each week. Put on calendar.

    Use a calorie tracker, and I use cronometer. I have to be real careful when I lose weight to get enough nutrients. I even take multivitamin during weight loss, and that’s over now, so I will take the pills until they run out, every couple of days.

    if you are supplementing with science then it is easily harmful. Humans are Omnivores, our body and digestive tract is built for both meat and plants. If you want the best health choice Paleo is the best way to go.

    Most vegans are far too young to realize that no one has ever lived a full life as a vegan. Even your 104 year old doctor you showed was never a vegan all his life, not even half his life. When I was a child there were no vegans, so you’re pulling in people that don’t know any better. I’m only sixty nine and when I was in my twenties veganism was unheard of.
